Precious moments and learning

 - Precious moments and learning

In the complex world of autism, families face many daily challenges. From managing routines to seeking moments of relaxation, every day brings its share of discoveries and challenges. At "Le Silence des Justes", we have always believed in the power of collaboration and tailored support. With this in mind, drawing on years of experience in parental guidance and listening to families' needs, we launched a promising initiative: parent-child stays.

This approach, although recent, is based on precise observations and aims to offer families a space for relaxation, learning and connection.

In this article, we invite you to discover the origins, the details and the feedback from this new adventure.

Parental guidance: observations for a better approach

The role of families in supporting a child with autism is central. Their home often becomes a place of learning, of challenges, but also of adaptation. Several observations have been made over the years regarding this parental guidance:

· The daily life of families: At home, families are faced with managing their daily routine. They do not always have the opportunity, the space, and sometimes not the desire, to welcome a professional for parental guidance. This reality highlights the need for tailored alternatives that take into account the specific features of each household.

· The presence of educators: It has been observed that not all young people appreciate seeing their educator in their private space. Such a change in their usual environment can make some less receptive to learning, underlining the importance of an appropriate context for effective intervention.

· Leisure time: For many of the families we support, moments of relaxation and leisure are rare. The reasons are many: the child's potential difficulties, the costs associated with activities, or a lack of support, particularly in the case of single-parent families. These families are looking for opportunities to enjoy themselves, to relax and to connect with their child in a peaceful setting.

· A relaxed context: A major observation was that parents and children are often more receptive in a context of well-being and relaxation. Moments spent outside the usual setting, in a relaxing environment, can open the way to more positive interactions and more effective learning.

These observations not only strengthened our understanding of the needs and challenges families face, but also laid the foundations for an innovative solution: the creation of stays designed specifically for parents and their children. These stays aim to combine relaxation, learning and the strengthening of bonds, in an environment conducive to everyone's fulfilment.

The innovation of parent-child stays: a fruitful collaboration

At the heart of this innovative initiative lies an exceptional collaboration. The vision of creating parent-child stays could not have become a reality without the partnership with the Maeva/Center Parc/Pierre et Vacances group. These leaders in the leisure sector saw the opportunity to combine their quality facilities with a deeply meaningful mission: improving the lives of families affected by autism.

An idyllic setting for learning and relaxation.

In June 2022, we organised a pilot stay at the Center Parc Village Nature. Three lucky families had the opportunity to benefit from their own accommodation, allowing them to make the most of their time fully and freely.

The reassuring presence of professionals

But what made this stay particularly special was the presence of professionals from our establishment. They were there to offer their expertise on several levels:

Supporting parents and their child during activities, thereby meeting the specific needs of each family.

Offering parental guidance sessions adapted to the context of the stay, whether for implementing communication tools, developing the child's autonomy, or managing free time.

Offering parents moments of respite by taking care of the child when needed, thus allowing parents to relax and recharge.

The objectives achieved

The goals of this stay were clear and centred on family well-being:

Giving parents the chance to share quality moments with their child, thereby strengthening their bonds.

Giving parents the opportunity to take time for themselves, something often rare in their daily lives.

Using the expertise of professionals to provide tools and strategies adapted to a family-friendly and playful environment.

The feedback was extremely positive. The L.T family, for example, expressed how beneficial this experience had been for them, describing their stay as a "very beautiful experience". Their testimony highlights the real impact of these stays on family well-being and self-confidence.

By combining the best of both worlds – the relaxation offered by an idyllic setting and the expertise of dedicated professionals – these parent-child stays promise to transform the way we approach parental guidance.

The resonance of parent-child stays: satisfaction in 2022

The year 2022 was marked by a significant development in supporting families affected by autism. The parent-child stay initiative, although a first, drew an extremely positive reaction. Measuring this satisfaction is crucial for assessing the project's impact and considering its future.

Eloquent testimonies

The best way to understand the impact of an initiative is to listen to the people directly concerned. The response from the families who took part in these stays is resounding. As the L.T family points out:

"This is the first time our two children have stayed somewhere other than home... Thanks to the presence and the support, it went wonderfully well! It reassured us!" These words, simple but profound, convey the immense relief and gratitude of parents who often struggle to find moments of rest or enjoyment as a family.

A setting conducive to confidence

It is clear that the environment of the stay, combined with the presence of caring professionals, created a space where parents and children felt safe and supported. This confidence is fundamental. It allows parents to relax, to enjoy the present moment, and to open the door to new skills and prospects for their child.

Looking to the future

The positive resonance of these stays in 2022 opens the way to new prospects for the future. Taking into account feedback from families and building on past successes, the association "Le Silence des Justes" is in a position to continue to innovate, improve and expand its offering. The satisfaction of families is living proof of the importance and necessity of such initiatives. Encouraged by this success, we organised another stay in May 2023. This new edition allowed us to refine our approach still further, broaden our offering and welcome a greater number of families.

In conclusion, 2022 was a pivotal year, marking a positive turning point in the way the association supports families. The satisfaction expressed by these families is not only a validation of the project's effectiveness, but also a source of inspiration to keep moving forward and innovating in the future.

The impact of the partnership on parent-child stays

Partnerships are often the cornerstone of success for large-scale projects, bringing support, visibility and resources. For "Le Silence des Justes", the collaboration with the Maeva/Center Parc/Pierre et Vacances group proved essential to making parent-child stays a reality.

An ideal setting for families

Thanks to the partnership with this renowned group, families were able to stay at the Center Parc Village Nature, a place known for its peaceful environment suited to relaxation. Offering families such a setting meant guaranteeing them a quality experience, far from everyday worries, in an environment conducive to relaxation and exchange.

Accommodation suited to needs

One of the strengths of this collaboration was the provision of individual accommodation for each family. This privacy allowed parents and children to make the most of their stay while keeping a personal space. The freedom offered by this accommodation was a considerable asset in ensuring everyone's well-being.

An opportunity for the association

The partnership with Maeva/Center Parc/Pierre et Vacances did not only benefit the families. It also gave the association "Le Silence des Justes" increased visibility and the chance to showcase its hard and dedicated work. This collaboration also opened the door to potential future initiatives, strengthening the bond between the two entities.

Mutual recognition

While "Le Silence des Justes" benefited from the group's support, the latter in turn received the recognition of the association and families for its commitment to autism. This partnership was tangible proof of the positive impact companies can have when they join forces with noble and necessary causes.

In short, the partnership with the Maeva/Center Parc/Pierre et Vacances group was an essential milestone in the success of parent-child stays. It highlights the importance of collaboration between the voluntary sector and the business world in achieving common goals and bringing about positive change in society.
